gathering ideas and chairs

I was smitten when I first saw these miniature wire chairs in my Pottery Barn catalog but they sell as a set and I only wanted one. There is so much that I like in the new PB catalog right now that recently I visited the store to see everything in-person and happily found the chairs for sale individually.

At first I placed a potted plant on the little ice cream parlor-style chair and had it in the living room but somehow it found its way upstairs to my bedroom to display jewelry in a teacup. {Isn't that always the way? LOL}

I am actually in the process of gearing-up to paint this room and have been gathering ideas. Of course my inspiration always springs from a magazine photo that makes me GASP. That's how I know ... my heart races and I think: that's it!

I love the feel of the room shown above. My room won't be quite the same but I like the wall color, faded red florals, and bistro chair. This room also has the typical slanted upstairs walls of a Cape Cod style home, just like mine.

I am thinking about clear glass hardware on the furniture, which I will keep finished as-is. What do you think?

I found this metal bistro chair at Target on sale for $30.

Weather-permitting, I may begin priming next weekend. The paint front-runner is Benjamin Moore's Navajo White. I think the off-white will look very beachy on the planked (?) ceilings and really brighten up the room.

I really don't enjoy painting but it sure makes a huge impact. I can't remember from which magazine I actually tore this page. Anyone know?

[I still need to write an update post on the boys' room. I'll save that for another time so this one doesn't go on too long!]

Happy weekend

Elyse- how fun that you were able to find a little chair! Love the teacup and saucer sitting on it!

I have had several friends use Navajo white and it is a delightful color! My that is going to so cheer up that already pretty room! I think clear knobs would be great on your dresser. I found some on Ebay a few years back for over 1/2 less than what you usually see them going for- I think less then 2.00 each. You might check -

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi, Elyse,
I love that sweet little chair that you purchased. It looks wonderful with the cup and your jewelry. I find I buy things and think I will place them in a certain place and then change my mind several times until I find just the right spot. I think your bedroom will look very airy and light and pretty with the new paint color. I hope you have a happy weekend, sweet friend! Vicki

Anything you do will be fabulous! I wish I had everything has streamlined as you. No matter how much I organize or weed things out, I still have a lot of stuff hanging around. I can't seem to live without it. You would probably grab a roll of wire and make your own little bistro chairs based on the one you bought. Have a fabulous weekend. Blessings, Tammy

Great ideas Elyse and I love the miniature chairs, but we foreigners don't even have access to the sight of PB, how odd is that?! Well I guess we better spend our money elsewhere...have a great weekend!

Beautiful inspiration. I have used navajo white and was very pleased with it. I prefer benjamin moore and sherwin williams paints and colors.

I once lived in an old cape cod style home and I found a very faded, petite floral wallpaper and just covered the slanted portion of the ceiling with it. I was very pleased with it and received many compliments.

I LOVE your etsy shop!

Your inspiration room is gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you do in your room. You have such beautiful taste I'm sure it will be wonderful. I'm still looking for my cottage. Elyse the room is going to wonderful!!! I painted every room in my house a color when I first moved in... it was the first time I did'nt live in an apartment. Then about 3 years later... I painted them all back to white!!!! (or a shade of) I agree, it can be very calm and soothing when done right. I love the glass knob idea too.

Wow. You get a lot of feedback. I can't find that red chair at Target but I want one! And I agree that I would love a full size version of the little ones you got at PB. I am obsessed with metal garden furniture. I would paint your dresser a color instead of leaving it unpainted with your clear knobs. I think it would pop more painted and would add more flair to your bedroom.

Luv your ideas and the way your inspiration came to you and you developed it, I too have a backyard but no patio or cover but we can still make little seating areas, cute that you used an old skirt, inside out for a tablecover. I am a painter, would love it if I had customers with your vision and we could make sweet, comfy, pretty rooms! Enjoyed your blog so much, Thank you!, Love, Linda, Selective Residential Services lwlolm.young@gmail.com
